New York Cares Day of Service Man Painting a Wall

Twice each year more than 11,000 New Yorkers work alongside their neighbors to contribute 60,000 hours of service, helping to transform our city parks, schools and community spaces in all five boroughs.

These events give individuals, groups of friends, families, and corporate teams the opportunity to make a difference in just one day, no orientation required. Each Cares Day is a serve-a-thon and critical fundraiser for New York Cares. Volunteers ask friends and family to donate in recognition of their volunteer work, and these donations help us run life-changing programs throughout the year.

Service Days

This National Day of Service reminds the NYC community about the importance of giving back and lending a friendly hand to your neighbors. Projects often cover multiple issue areas and serve several different groups of disadvantaged New Yorkers.

Volunteers get to work cleaning up parks, community gardens, and public spaces throughout the city. Discover a new park, meet a community gardener, and learn more about the importance of open space while making a real difference in the community.

We organize projects that engage all age groups in community service throughout our beloved city. Our volunteer projects range from painting murals in schools to organizing arts and crafts with seniors.

Every October, more than 4,000 volunteers paint a brighter future for NYC public schools.
