Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.

Our Programs

More than 62,000 people volunteer with us year after year because they know they make a real difference. Together, we help 400,000 disadvantaged New Yorkers through the programs below.

Our Programs

Year-Round Volunteer Opportunities

We develop and run 1,500 hands-on, meaningful volunteer projects each month that provide a lifeline of support to vulnerable children, adults, and communities. Our projects are flexibly scheduled, allowing even the busiest New Yorkers to make a difference.

Citywide Days of Service

We engage 9,400 volunteers over two large days of service: New York Cares Day Fall each October, which benefits public schools, and New York Cares Day Spring each April, which benefits community parks and gardens. These days are also important fundraisers for New York Cares.

Corporate Volunteering

We enable thousands of New York City's leading companies to play an important role in meeting pressing social needs. We are the organization that companies of all sizes turn to when they want to create employee volunteer programs.

Disaster Preparedness and Response

We are New York City's lead organization for managing disaster volunteers. Our Disaster Preparedness and Response program ensures that volunteers can be quickly and effectively mobilized in the event of a disaster. Click here for more details on our efforts related to Hurricane Sandy.

Youth Service Opportunities

Our award-winning Youth Service Clubs offer meaningful volunteer opportunities to hundreds of low-income teens in our city's public schools. Our goal is to prepare the next generation of volunteers by educating students about social issues, engaging them in youth-led service projects, and providing leadership training.

Holiday Coat and Gift Drives

Our holiday programs, the New York Cares Coat Drive and Winter Wishes, provide warm winter coats and holiday gifts to men, women, and children who would otherwise go without.
