Seasonal Manager, Winter Wishes

Each year, New York Cares works with hundreds of our Community Partners, including homeless shelters, schools and nonprofit organizations, to provide holiday gifts for children, teens, and seniors living in poverty; many of whom would not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season. To accomplish this, New York Cares collects and screens more than 35,000 gift requests and sends them to volunteers who purchase, wrap, and send the gifts to our partners. This year marks the 29th Annual Winter Wishes Program.

Position Description

The Winter Wishes Seasonal Program Manager will help the New York Cares Service Events Department by assisting with data entry; creating and mailing event collateral; leading volunteers in various service programs; and completing administrative tasks as needed. This Manager plays a large role in ensuring that all 35,000 children, teens & seniors participating in the Winter Wishes program receive gifts from New York Cares volunteers this holiday season. This position will run from September 25 through January 12, and at least one Saturday work day will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead project manager for the Winter Wishes 2017 letter reading campaign
  • Develop strong relationships with community partners and guide them through the Winter Wishes process
  • Assist with all aspects of the volunteer letter matching process to ensure that it runs smoothly, meets expectations, and achieves impact goals, including but not limited to community partner engagement, logistics management, project execution, and evaluation
  • Manage expenses and budgets as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service to Winter Wishes community partners and volunteers
  • Deliver programmatic training to corporate team leaders and volunteers, as needed
  • Assist with the creation of post-event reports and analysis of project results and data
  • Carry out a variety of critical administrative tasks related to the position

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and logistics skillsExperience working with diverse constituents including corporate leaders and community partners
  • Professional demeanor and communication skills, both in person and on the telephone, with a wide range of agency contacts and volunteers
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills
  • Experience working with and/or leading groups of volunteers preferred
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Salesforce database experience a plus)
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Available 35 hours during the week Monday through Friday anytime between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM between the months of October and December.
  • Ability to be flexible, to keep a sense of humor, and to solve problems with confidence and creativity
