Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service.


Reporting to the Group Volunteer Experience Manager, the Volunteer Relations (VR) Fall Intern will play a key role in delivering high quality customer service to individual and groups of volunteers, as well as a wide array of external audiences. The VR Fall Intern will work closely with volunteers participating in three of our Annual Events, including the Coat Drive, Winter Wishes, and New York Cares Day for Schools. They should be prepared to respond to inquiries by phone and email, troubleshoot technical difficulties with volunteers, perform database updates, and assist with other duties supporting the Volunteer and Community Partner Relations Team in the execution of these seasonal events, which provide holiday gifts, warm coats, and revitalized schools to New York City.

In addition, this role will include various efforts to engage, recognize, and strengthen all constituent experiences with New York Cares.


Specific duties include:

  • Respond to email and phone inquiries related to New York Cares Day for Schools, Coat Drive, and Winter Wishes, as well as general year-round initiatives 
  • Monitor and respond to volunteer feedback and evaluations
  • Perform database updates to ensure accurate tracking and team record keeping
  • Prepare volunteer welcome packets for Coat Drive and Winter Wishes and assist in their distribution
  • Process attendance waivers from Group Leaders after volunteer projects
  • Draft letters of verification of volunteer service
  • Troubleshoot UX to ensure the ultimate volunteer experience for these seasonal events
  • Other duties as assigned

This is an unpaid position. 

Expected timing is 10-15 hours a week from September 2017 through December 2017. Schedule is flexible.
