More Ways to Donate to Hurricane Sandy Relief

November 14th, 2012

Thank you for your offer to support the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.

With your generous help, we are helping hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers recover. For those interested in donating goods, please remember that money is the most helpful form of donation since it allows us to purchase the items most needed by hurricane victims. Every dollar counts.

If you have goods to donate, please donate to one of our partner organizations working in New York City to provide relief in affected areas. Donations to these organizations help fund their disaster relief services (please click on the organization name for more information about accepted items and drop-off locations). You can also click here to review and fill specific needs posted by non-profit organizations.

  2. I own a 27 ft motor home. I live in the washington, dc area. I am willing to transport needed supplies to your area in support of relief efforts. If you are aware of any agencies in the Washington, D.C. area willing to donate, I am willing to drive the supplies to your area.

  3. I find it somewhat discouraging that you list more than a few projects for cleaning up parks, but no mention of direct-action to assist homeowners in affected neighborhoods. This is yet one good example to publish.

  8. I am with an organization called Wings Up Productions. We are very new. We would like to distribute water, canned food, and coats/clothing to victims of Hurrican Sandy. How can we provide support?

  9. We have started collection and have acquired everything from food to tools/supplies to clothing to toys. Will NY Cares accept a broad donation of all these items to be dispersed to the various charities noted above? We are happy to donate, but we are coming from Mass and looking for one drop-off location for all goods. If you cannot, perhaps you may know of another organization that will? Best,

  16. My mother, who has a house in Rockaway Beach was a victim of Sandy in that her heating, plumbing and electricity were destroyed by the sea water. her living quarters were not.

She died about 6 weeks ago and I have been cleaning out her house. I have 10 contractor bags of her clothes, which either are cleaned or have never been worn — the price tags are still on some of the clothes.

I would like to donate these clothes to a charity. So far, the Vietname Veterans Charity doesn’t go to Rockaway Beach. I have been on the phone for hours trying to get through to the Salvation Army. Other local charities seem to have not opened as yet.

    Can you help me?
